Bellafill is one of the more widely known synthetic fillers available on the market. It is most often used to deal with areas around the nose and mouth, such as removing creases and smile lines. Bellafill is also considered what is known as a permanent filler, as it does not get absorbed by our body and does not falter. Due to this, there is usually only a single injection required and the treatment does not need to be repeated.
But what actually is Bellafill? Well, Bellafill is made out of enhanced bovine collagen, with a slight addition of lidocaine – a local anesthetic which blocks the nerve signals of our bodies in order to reduce pain. The enhanced collagen is created out of polymethylmethacrylate, or just PMMA, which is the synthetic material of the filler.
Similarly to Bellafill, - is also a synthetic filler, which is also quite popular and its effects have been praised by a vast majority of customers. - is made in a similar way to Bellafill, as it is composed of microspheres, but the material used in this case is Calcium Hydroxylapatite.
However, as opposed to Bellafill which gives immediate results and stays unchanged, - continues to work even after the injection. In addition to providing an immediate effect, Calcium Hydroxylapatite helps our body to produce natural collagen, which further enhances the effects of the treatment. After some time, the filler eventually gets absorbed by our body, leaving the built-up collagen in its place
Even though it is becoming less and less popular due to new inventions, silicon fillers were what made dermal fillers a thing. The advantage of silicon is that it is quite permanent – a single treatment with silicon will not have to be repeated in order to keep the effects up. That quality made silicon as popular as it once was.
But it is not as simple as it may seem! Silicon is actually no longer in use in part due to that same permanency that gave it popularity. Silicon dermal fillers are hard to remove and correct, making them quite dangerous if done improperly. Moreover, silicon fillers are often thought of by doctors as unpredictable, as they have a quite high risk of complications. Silicon fillers were known to provoke infections, allergic reactions, and create lumps under the skin. That is why more modern and safe substances are in use today.
